As I expected, following Landon Donovan's incredible performance with the United States-squad at the World Cup; a boatload of European powerhouses would be screaming for Donovan and pleasing the likes of the Los Angeles Galaxy and Major League Soccer.

I mean, the round of sixteen just ended today, and it's only been three days since the USA's heartbreaking overtime loss to Ghana, and clubs are already seeking Donovan to join their squad. Not that...that was much of a shock to anyone. Shouldn't have been.

Stunned a bit about Man City's offer to LA Galaxy MLS, a hefty $12 million.

Man City's packed with stars, and it wouldn't shock me if Donovan is a second-half sub type of player...so why a dozen mil?

Donovan to Man City? Let's hope not.

The same score. The same team, not entirely the same situation, but the in the second clash between the CONCACAF kings and the CAF kings, Ghana prevails after extra time to hold off the United States, 2-1. Just like 2006.

Landon Donovan continued his scoring spree with a PK against Ghana. Made it 1-1. His 3rd of the World Cup. His 45th overall international goal.

It seemed like classy American-style soccer being played, as the USA fell behind in only the fifth minute from a result of poor, subpar defending from the US' defense. Not that that's much of a shock to me...or to anyone.
I don't really have an entire deal of things to recap, because I feel that a good deal of you watched the game, and know what to make of it. Hopefully you know by now that the United States men's national soccer team is not  awful, not bad, but actually...pretty decent.
It goes without saying that they're nothing on the level of world-class, and people get tired of hearing how one day they'll be world class, but hey it's true. Each year we claim more European players, and I feel that come the 2014 cycle we wont only have players in Europe...but stars in Europe, though after seeing Italy and France bow out embaressingly, not sure if that's all for the better.
Who nows, and now here's an array of video you all might enjoy.

Now that was the game simulated yesterday. Was it exactly like that...well no only the first five minutes, with Prince's early goal.

In the span of a second from complete failure to incredible success, Donovan came up and made the biggest goal of his career. USA win their group for the first time since 1930.

Now to figure out who the Yanks play. That's not until later this afternoon, but if you're new to soccer, or seeing the USA actually do well in soccer, sit back, enjoy the fact that exams are over...school's out...and watch some World Cup soccer. Four matches a day from now until early next week. And there's no better time to watch some of it.

Well, lets cut to the chase on this game. The US looked a bit weak in the right back during the first half and almost conceded (yet another) early goal. Thankfully the crossbar came to the rescue, and it remained level at zero apiece, and remained that way at halftime.

To a true, USA-soccer fan like myself, we're used to the United States going down, then rallying to crush the hopes of their opponents. And yes, a myriad number of times has the USA gone down...to rally for victory. The comeback, it's always a classic, but it shows one thing. Our offense is fast and explosive, or midfield has depth, and our defense is awful.

Before I recap this, cliche USA match, I'll link you up the times the United States rallied to win or tie, only in CONCACAF qualification. Happened ever too often: @ El Salvador. Hosting Honduras, hosting El Salvador, winning at Honduras, tying Costa Rica. More recently, our match against Turkey provides more stunning proof.

This is actually a game more of a scare to the United States more than England. For months (the media) hyped up the USA v England game, and practically disregarded and legitimate threats from Slovenia and Algeria. Sure, the USA are the better team on paper, but that doesn't mean the USA will crank out an easy 3-0 victory over the, so-called minnows.

I'm expecting the United States to win, because after the way I saw the USA handle England and the solid mentality they've shown, the Stars and Stripes should be able to defeat the Slovenians, not with ease, but...defeat them. A victory would see them go into first place...probably tied with England.

Pre-Game

Getting ancy, and the pre-game show is in 45 minutes!  has started. Ever since the draw about six-and-a-half months ago in Johannesburg, I've been eagerly awaiting the moment the United States would take on England. A fierce, frenemy to say the least, and an opener that's like no other. Historically, we've actually done well against the Brits. We opened against them 60 years ago in the 1950 World Cup, creating a buzz around the World (except USA) that we defeated England 1-0.

Perhaps my friend Michael H. said it the best, for the casual American sports fan:
"After the first day of the World Cup, both games ened in a tie. I wonder why Americans hate soccer so much."
It's not to say that the games were boring, but they were fairly palpable that these games were exceptionally low scoring, especially given the zip-zip tie between the French and Uruguay. (At least France didn't win.) Plus the one all draw between the hosts and the Mexicans, yet again, glad to see the Tri not winning either.

Still, there's a lot that will happen, for the fact that there's 60-something matches remaining. Odds are another goal is going to eventually occur. Granted, Group A isn't necessarily the thrill group as people anticipate. Below are some recaps of each game:

I understand of the many of you that are actually looking forward to the World Cup, only a handful of you can name the schedule of the United States' World Cup games, and only a few of you can actually name a player on the team. Typically, it's only Landon Donovan. Honestly, that in no way surprises me. So this blog post is to help the few of you that read the Valor Dictus (most of you are probably reading this on Tyler Talk), an idea of what our squad is like.

Our team has 23 players. I'm not bothering naming them all. So click here to see the whole crew. I'm only highlighting the major ones.

Landon Donovan

Plays in Major League Soccer...that's our nation's top soccer league. On a team called the LA Galaxy...which play in Los Angeles, which in itself is a city in California (on the west coast). Makes good passes, wears the number ten, assists and scores on a regular basis. Perhaps the best American to ever play the game. No it's not you. Deal with it.

Clint Dempsey

Scrappy, intense player. Buzz cut. Number eight. Attacking midfielder...scores a lot. Goes nuts when he does. Plays in Europe...in the English Premier Leauge, with Fulham.

Dude can score:

Though a vast amount of students hate Twitter's simplicity, and inability to like pages, it's not really any surprise to see Twitter so high up on this list. But this year many students created Twitter accounts, and the ones who created them last year...actually used them regularly now.

This site hit the ground running, and has exploded in popularity since the Snowpacolypse. Mainly because people can ask others sexually explicit questions without being caught, and others can be attention whores. Worst combination ever. Terrible web site, yet so many mainstreams are addicted to its pure mediocrity.

1. Facebook

Description: What tweens and preteens believe is the only web site existing.

Unfortunately, for the third consecutive school-year, Facebook is still—by far—the most popular social networking site amongst students. Though the news shouldn't be any surprise to anyone, what surprises me is that it's still making noise at this point, for nearly three years. Following the death of MySpace, and the up and coming expected rise of Twitter, people were expecting Facebook to fall. It's simply become every teen's microcosm, causing them to be fearful of any site beyond Facebook.

2. Formspring

Description: Questions, pleas to have sex, the likes.

No one probably saw this site come in. Literally out of nowhere, this site entered the mainstream earlier this very year, and it's exploded in popularity, though it seems to have dwindled a bit in its popularity. Still though, there's no other site that has as many Formspring users. Though I think the site's a waste of time, people still enjoy wasting time on a site where you're suppose to ask and answer questions anonymously.

3. Yahoo!

Description: Everything crammed by your email tab.

4. Twitter

Description: Fruitless news and bitching concisely composed.

Though Twitter was a craze for twenty-something, teens seemed to hate the site mainly because you wouldn't be able to play FarmVille or ask sexual questions to friend anonymously. To my surprise, the site's increased tremendously in students using the site, one thing to make accounts, like they did last year, but to frequently tweet and tweet meaningful stuff is on the rise.
