- For the 2010 World Cup, 19 of the 23 players play outside of the United States. Only 4 play in Major League Soccer.
- In 2006 and 2002, 11 MLS players made up the USA World Cup roster. 12 played outside of the US.
- 1998 saw 16 playing in MLS, while only a modest 6 played outside of the US.
- Though MLS came into existence in 1996, in the 1990 and 1994 World Cup's the US roster featured 20 and 15 domestic players respectively.
That being said it looks as if a majority of the USMNT core has changed drastically in the span of 20 years. Good for the US national team, bad for MLS. Only 6 MLS players will be playing in the World Cup, 4 on the US, 1 on Honduras and 1 on Switzerland.
